Gentoo linux + Xlibre + TDE is best option for my 8 years of linux experience ?
By SiameseArtist
Well hello everyone my name is Thonbongkot Treesuwan or you can call me SiameseArtist This is my first blog after not update for 1 or maybe 2 years. this is a first blog before my birthday here. i remember when i used linux when i actually was on my middle school in 2017 on my main gaming laptop acer nitro 5 to my tablet microsoft surface go 3 and now on my lenovo ideapad 320 amd variant. now today i write about my best option for my linux after 8 years which i recommend for someone who want become a linux veteran like myself
to understand before install gentoo
gentoo linux is one of the hardest distro when you install. but gentoo linux command is not very hard that must actually, but it hardest because how long to install package gentoo linux use emerge to install package on they distro. don't like debian and fedora if you want install package you can install command like apt/dnf , or install some file package like .deb or .rpm , but the gentoo emerge is install from source that why gentoo is not recommend for linux begining user, but if you love a hardcore user or maybe you hate gnome like me you can install this distro, and they have tutorial from youtube or gentoo official handbooks for install this.
What is a TDE ?
TDE or Trinity Desktop environment is a kde or K? Desktop Environment fork tde is user older version of kde 3.5 like mate that look like gnome 2 i can tell that much but for me tde is a lightweight version on old pc you can custom like windows 9x/2k and xp or maybe macos 9 (yes it alternative custom like macos 9 and the panel can hidden like mac os 9 too) but i used a tde for modern laptop because i like retro computer gui
Why You used Xlibre instead of Wayland ?
well xlibre is better than wayland for me because i like install old style of linux desktop and my favorite old japanese x11 apps like xmascot or emiclock is also use xorg and it make linux smooth too wayland it look like a heavy modern linux ui on my desktop and i don't like a big tech company xorg is not maintained anymore by this day xlibre is solution so that why i choose xlibre not wayland
Let's talk about about gaming on this thing with gentoo and xlibre
here i have a 2 games playing on my laptop it not best for modern games but i test it
Umamusume Pretty Derby
first game to testing on my Ideapad is umamusume i'm not big fans of this game actually. (i was a pawapuro fans please don't drama.) the game is some lack of cause my Ideapad is not a gaming laptop from 8 year old, but it's doesn't mean you cannot play that thing it lack some cutscene, and loading menu, but well it playable. (if you want to play this game on linux i recommend to use proton GE on protonup-qt on flatpak)
Touhou Double Dealing Character
next game to try is touhou 14 well it playable and smooth that game is can play on your potato pc i play that game at sakuya i not pass level 1 now because i'm not playing video games that much (-_-;)
test my theme color on tde
AB-I (Andro Garuda) AB-II (Andro Falcon)
the color theme was inspire like in japanese sci-fi or tokusatsu and the name of this there was come from my own project manga "Space Detective Movement Androban" but i didn't have a plan how to publish this but maybe i'm gonna still learn drawing and desige character it will be publish some day if i have my own publishing or maybe share my manga on online the custom color on tde you can custom you own color like in windows 9x the file system for tde color file is .kcsrc (the kde 3 version color palate file)
This is best option for every linux user ?
it not the best but it better for many linux user i unterstand linux is a open source and it customization too someone maybe like modern ui like gnome or kde but gentoo have another recommend because it compatable with all pc like x86 arm etc so you can try for you older or a potato pc for me i like a old design of ui it self on modern pc xlibre is also make old program that use xorg compatibility and it also maintain to trinity project is also use xorg and they not plan to use wayland right now maybe if you like modern ui i recommend to sonicde it is a kde that use xorg only kde after version 6.8 they not support xorg anymore so you can used sonicde instead on arch linux that recommend to install on it gentoo is have a unofficial package on github but it not stable to install yet so don't try until all package is complete and a last thing gentoo is not recommend for someone who use linux for chill but gentoo is better option for many user but i want you to try it like mount everest of all linux distro if not include a linux for scratch it very hard to install but you install for one time you maybe got achievement linux veteran like me and this is why i recommend for linux user for 8 years right now and happy birthday to me today on 28 february 2026
